Who are you and what are you doing?
I’m Brad Farwell. Although I was born in California, I’ve lived in New York for 20 years and my family and I have lived in Highbridge since 2015. I’m a photographer making portraits, architectural photography, and still life images using the tintype process, a kind of analog photography dating back to the 1850s. Each tintype is unique, the image created directly on the surface of a large metal plate that must be coated and chemically sensitized on-site within minutes of taking the picture. If that doesn’t sound difficult enough, when I’m not working in my studio, I’m often doing all of this on the back of my bicycle. I also offer workshops and demonstrations on Tintype technique, and teach all sort of photo stuff as an Associate Professor of Photography at The Fashion Institute of Technology.
